I think this is essential reading for any white vegan looking to expand their perspective on veganism as a social justice issue. It contains a lengthy introduction that addresses many "dos and donts" that we often see causing strife and then moves on into a variety of poems, essays and interviews from multitude of perspectives and experiences. Even if you're someone who feels relatively well versed in these issues, I'd imagine that there will still be a few you hadn't considered before.It is a very quick read and, for the most part, relatively accessible, not a ton of academic jargon. I only wish there was more, hoping for a part two at some point.

I am a Black Vegan and I didn’t enjoy this book. It’s short and feels like it could have been made into free pamphlets, not sold as a book. The writing isn’t good. It’s just not worth the money. Sistah Vegan is a MUCH more informative, interesting, and life changing book. This is a bunch of Tumblr posts printed and bound under cool cover art.

This short little book is an asset for any white animal rights activist or vegan who is newer to topics of intersectionality or who is involved in single-issue animal rights work. That seems to be the target audience of this book. It is not that I don't think folks of color will get things out of this, it just may be more preaching to the choir in their case. I could see my younger, newly vegan, obsessively animal rightsy self benefiting greatly from this. The intro could easily be made into a pamphlet and handed out at animal rights events. It also gave some insight into indigenous and south Asian vegan experiences that were helpful and interesting.My only criticism of this book is that it feels unfinished. I purchased it new (something I do not do often) in part because Food Empowerment Project was getting some of the proceeds. So, the book and project still deserve support in the current phase. But, the formatting is off, there seem to be the same few writers in repeated entries with repetitive messages, there is no epilogue or wrap-up entry (like offering more resources or telling us more about contributors and their projects,) so the book just ends abruptly after a set of interviews, and other little things like spelling errors. I was hoping for a bigger call for contributions from a wider population of vegans of color for a book with a title like this. It is definitely still worth picking up and reading. It is a fast read. But, make sure you also read books like Aphroism, Sistah Vegan, and others to get a multitude of perspectives on these issues.

A great book and must-read for new and long-time vegans alike. While the prose gets a bit thick at times, the heart of the message is good. Overall a good critique of veganism as a path for social justice reform.

This book is important for all vegans to read and also for activists who are not yet vegan, but are committed to learning about the intersection of various forms of oppression. Great and informative book!

This book is an amazing collection of perspectives that people need to hear from. Reading it was a much needed eye opener for me. I always thought being vegan gave a person the moral high ground and that is simply not the case. Humbling and unique. Many thanks to the authors who put themselves out there in this book and in every day life♥️♥️♥️
