Laura Amazzone is an author, teacher, jewelry artist, and Yogini. She completed her master's degree in philosophy and religion with an emphasis in women's spirituality at the California Institute of Integral Studies in 2001. Laura teaches goddess classes and workshops in California and is adjunct faculty in the Yoga Philosophy program at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

I gravitated to this book since it coincides with my own personal journey and in spite of being male. The author writes with raw integrity, an authentic expression we've lost in our day and time. The book has a nice flow that consists of not only the author's own personal passages but also an impressive handle on the subject as evidenced by her using numerous and reputable resources also worth reading. I must admit that as a man reading this book, I felt slightly in parenthesis. And as someone who is devoted to changing patriarchy, however imperfectly done, I wish to see books on the subject of male and female come together to replicate the chaotic Oneness exemplified by the gods and goddesses. But this is what happens since patriarchy has been poured into our systems. I think this book is a very helpful reading personally and professionally. It carries an empowering message for women and at the same time informs the open-minded male of just how far patriarchy has injured the human race.

I highly recommend this great companion guide to read throughout the festivities of Navaratri or anytime. The book transports you into the heart of the sacred feminine and Durga Puja, the largest modern day commemoration to the Divine Mother on the planet with roots that reach back 5000 years.
